Shoe Storage

The average woman owns 19 pairs of shoes at any given time. She will buy 469 pairs of shoes in her lifetime and spend an average of $25,000. Styles will range from workout shoes, to ballet flats, and high heels. Add in a husband or roommate, and maybe a few children in to the mix, and your home can be overrun with shoes! Where and how you decide to keep all your shoes is up to you. Options range from shelving, to a closet, to a rack by the front door. There is also the option of a shoe storage cabinet. Let’s look at the pros and cons of using a shoe storage cabinet as a shoe organizer.

PROS

  • A shoe storage cabinet keeps your shoes out of sight.
  • You will reduce visual clutter in your entryway.
  • Shoes are easier to find if they are all in one place and grouped together either by owner or by type.
  • Your floors and carpets will stay cleaner if shoes are put up in a cabinet as soon as you come in the door.
  • A stylish cabinet can add a touch of elegance to your entryway.
  • A shoe storage cabinet may double as a holder for other items; if it is low enough, you can use the top as a ledge.
  • Shoe organization is the first step in an organized home and may motivate you to organize other areas as well.  Think of it as a gateway drug to a cleaner house.

CONS

  • A shoe storage cabinet may take up too much space in your entryway.
  • The inside may begin to smell as there will be limited chance for circulation if there is a door.
  • In bad weather, placing wet or snowy shoes and boots inside a shoe storage cabinet may result in damaging other shoes on the shelves below.
  • Your shoe storage cabinet may not be able to hold all your shoes, resulting in other options being required for your shoe storage in addition to the cabinet.
  • A shoe storage cabinet may not get used by all members of the family, as it is another step to take when you come in and your hands are full.

There are both pros and cons when it comes to using a shoe storage cabinet for your shoe organization. Shop around if you are considering one and be sure it fits all your requirements before buying or you may find that you don’t use it.

I hope you got the macro pics that I took of the shoes in the oak cabinet. I thought they came out great, even though the light wasn’t cooperating.

Yep. I got them. They look great. I thought the lighting worked.

I just want to mention I got one of the cabinets that you listed. It looks great it our hallway!

I have one that kinda looks like the one from Target, but it’s darker. I’m gonna get another one, too. I’m running out of space!

Real nice style and design and superb content, absolutely nothing else we need :D .
